In a fit of boredom I was surfing the web tonight and came across a rather nifty site. The BBC has come a long way from the days when it tried to shut down all Welsh-language programming and thus inspired a revolutionary group, Y WAWR, to dynamite its transmission towers. (Only those in Wales, mind.) If you saw the film, A HARD DAY'S NIGHT, you know the contempt that the very idea of "news in Welsh" drew back in the '60s.

Now there is a BBC Wales, which has a very good website filled with "learn Welsh" programs. It's at bbc.co.uk/wales/learnwelsh. The one problem I've found with it is that some of the features require Shockwave 10. I have Shockwave 11, and for some reason -- perhaps it's because I've got the USA version -- I can't get the bloody thing to work right. However, other people here are probably better with plug-ins than I, and besides, you don't need it for everything.

Not as exotic as the site I posted about some months back where you can learn ancient Hittite, but fun nonetheless.
